Celtic Brooch Tartan
The original tartan design was approved and it's now officially registered with The Scottish Register of Tartans. Special thanks to Erin Channell for all her hard work in getting this done. THANK YOU! Additional thanks to Emily Redman and the Scotland Shop staff who brought this project to fruition.

Tidbit of Tartan History
In the January 2025 newsletter we explored the differences between tartan and plaid? Here's another tidbit of tartan history: the designs are comprised of between two and six colors and may use numbers of significance to the clan or group to determine the pattern and colors used.
Many clans have different versions depending on their history, dyes available, and so forth. For example, you might see them listed as ancient, modern, dress, weathered, or hunting.
Survey says…yes, you want tartan products
Congratulations to Terry Thomason for winning the February ebook giveaway by telling us your thoughts on tartan products!
Over 100 readers indicated an interest in purchasing a tartan product, which is great to hear! Here's a summary of the interest:
- 88 indicated you wanted to purchase a tartan item and another 32 wanted to see the tartan first.
- Nearly everyone was interested in a scarf or snood (aka neck warmer), but there was strong interest in other items as well.
- It was nearly an even split between wool and non-wool scarf options
I'm excited to share that we WILL be offering tartan products! We'll make the details available in a future newsletter once all the logistics are complete and a landing page with the shop is set-up. I'm confident everyone interested will find something they'll love!
If you didn't catch it earlier, you can tell me HERE which brooches you think are represented in the tartan, and be entered in the giveaway for a Brooch ebook of your choice.
Family Trees
Update from Erin Channell, Clan Genealogist
With all the activity around the tartan, I haven't had a chance to complete any other small family trees. To be fair, most of them are done, and several of the ones I need to work on are tied to The Jasper Brooch. I can only do so much while waiting for the book to published so I don't spoil the story!Â
These are the trees currently available. Send me an email if you'd like to have access. They will soon be available on this site.
